Definition

This definition is used to study family composition of households, and especially families with child(ren). A couple within a household is formed by a man and by a woman of 14 years old or more, living in the same main residence and who meet (with some exception) at least one of following both criteria: they declare both to be married or they declare both to live in a union. The couples so defined are de facto couples, married or not.
