Association for Employment in Industry and Commerce / ASSEDIC

Definition

In 2009, the National employment agency (ANPE) and Associations for employment in industry and commerce (or ASSEDICs) merged to accompany better the job-seekers in their initiatives of job search and compensation. The ANPE and ASSEDICs form henceforth the Pole Emploi (Pole Employment).

ASSEDICs, numbering 30, were located all over France (mainland and overseas) and were federated on the national level by the UNEDIC.
Associations for employment in industry and commerce (or ASSEDICs) were private bodies (associations under the 1901 law) whose missions included, locally, the registration (for the ANPE since 1 January 1998) and monitoring of job seekers, their compensation, the payment of return-to-employment aid and the collection of contributions.
