Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line / ADSL

Definition

ADSL is an Internet access technology that uses high telephone line frequencies to transmit digital data at very high speeds.
Official French terminology prefers the expression "raccordement numérique asymétrique" (RNA) or "liaison numérique à debit asymétrique" but it is the English acronym ADSL that is the most commonly used.

Note

Owing to its low cost, this technology is widely used by internet service providers for so-called "broadband" access.
