Definition

French nationality is "acquired" when a person becomes French after birth. The acquisition of French nationality occurs under conditions set by the law. Acquisition of French nationality may occur in two ways :

- by declaration further to personal events (primarily due to marriage to a French national and the early acquisition of French nationality for young foreigners born in and living in France) ;
- by decision of the public authorities (naturalization).
