"Fisheries and Aquaculture" statistical office

The "ministerial statistical office for Fisheries and Aquaculture" is the Central Bureau of Statistics (Bureau Central des Statistiques: BCS) at the Directorate for Sea Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. It is one of the Ministry's two statistical offices, the larger one (SCEES) being focused on agriculture.

Main missions

BCS is in charge of all matters pertaining to the collection, preparation, and dissemination of statistical information on sea fisheries and aquaculture.

It handles dissemination of information among European institutions, international organizations, ministerial departments and the public, in liaison with Statistics and Forecasting Department. It contributes to economic information policy and studies for the marine fisheries, aquaculture and inland fisheries sector.

Status in institution

BCS is a unit of the Directorate for Sea Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries.

It is responsible for policy-making and oversight in the areas of sea fisheries, sea products, and marine and continental aquaculture.
